Recent Changes made by the Canadian Government regarding sponsorship to parents and grandparents !

As being said by the government of Canada that family reunion is it’s utmost priority, the Canadian government on September 23, 2021 announced that this year, IRCC i.e. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is set to accept a record number of up to as many as 30,000 applications under the Parents and Grandparents (PGP)

Program, the largest ever in a single intake.

IRCC is not sending invitations to apply to selected group of sponsors who had submitted their interest in
sponsoring their parents and grandparents in 2020. The invitations will be sent on the email id that the sponsors had provided at the time of filling the form. Those who had submitted their interest in the sponsor forms last year but have lost the confirmation number they received will be able to retrieve their confirmation number and invitation status.
Those invited to be a part of this process will have period of 60 days to submit their application and they must do so by only using IRCC’s new Permanent Residence Portal. Those who are invited but are unable to apply through online platform due to accessibility reasons can request an application package in different format by sending IRCC an email as soon as possible.
For the 2020 tax year, the income requirement will continue to be the minimum necessary income instead of the minimum necessary income plus 30 percent and will allow regular Employment Insurance Benefits and temporary COVID – 19 benefits, such as the Canada Emergency Response Benefit to be included towards sponsors income. This measure will
ensure that applicants are not penalized for losing income during the pandemic. For those who were not invited to apply may consider for a super visa which will allow parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to 2 years at a time without the need to renew their status. A Super Visa allows multiple entries for up to 10 years. As always visitors to Canada are advised to ensure that they
have Adequate health insurance keeping in mind the ongoing pandemic…
