Canada’s new travel rules…
Canada has always welcomed immigrants with open arms. It is one of those countries which value immigrants and understand their importance. Immigrants have had a huge impact on Canada’s economy and continue to contribute till date. The country welcomes
thousands of skilled workers, international students and tourists every year which depicts how loved Canada is. But, in the year 2019 when COVID-19 emerged, every country took some understandable measures to ensure safety of their residents. Canada also took some safety measures and put international ban on international flights. As months passed, life became normal the way it was before
the pandemic so the government of Canada removed the international ban but imposed a 14 day mandatory quarantine for international travellers travelling to Canada. Also, the travellers were supposed to carry a negative COVID-19 report test taken 72 hours prior of landing in the country.
Soon with time, as COVID cases feel to a negligible level, the country removed the mandatory quarantine requirement and only a negative test report was required. Currently, as we know that the world has triggered a new COVID variant known as Omicron, every country is concerned about it. Following
the emergence of the Omicron variant, Canadian officials have increased travel restrictions. Direct flights from 10 South African countries have been banned. List of countries include Botswana, Egypt, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Internationals who have been to any of these countries within the past 14 days are not allowed to enter the country.
The new measures will also affect Canadian residents and permanent residents travelling from these countries. They are supported to have a COVID-19 test in a third country in order to land in Canada.
Also, Canada has re-introduced on arrival testing and 14 day quarantine for international travellers travelling from any country except the U.S. . Fully vaccinated travellers are supposed to take a test on arrive and quarantine at home until they get their results. Only is they receive a negative report, they can get out of quarantine otherwise they will have to wait for 10 more days and get their tests done again. It is a very tough situation for Indian students who are planning to go
to Canada as they will not be allowed to perform any task that an international student has to after arriving in Canada. But the government is fully responsible for the safety for it’s citizens so taking these necessary steps can be understood..
