Canada lifts ban on African countries…
Canada is one of those countries which is preferred by residents of many other countries. It is not only Indians that are unusually attracted towards Canada but people of Africa also look at Canada as a destination that provides quality education, healthy lifestyle, cultural diversity and enormous work opportunities. Recently, the Canadian government had imposed a ban on 10 South African countries due to the discovery of Omicron variant of COVID which originated from South Africa. It was on 26th of November that the country had banned flights from 7 African countries and within a few days this number increased to 10. The list of countries included South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia, Nigeria, Malawi and Egypt. The ban was originally set to expire on January 31.
This ban was highly criticised by the African political leaders and scientists as it was only imposed on African nations. 44 more nations have detected this variant but the flights from these nations are still continued. Canada’s ban along with other bans from Western countries became known as ‘travel apartheid’. The director of TheWorld Health Organization, Genera Tendros Adhanom Ghebrevesus stated that the rules were disappointing. Also, the Advocates within Canada called the rules to end. Keeping in mind the current situation and dealing with the criticism received, the Canadian government has announced to call off the ban. The current situation seems to be fine and
the Omicron variant is not a deadly variant. However the country will continue it’s current measures which include a negative COVID test report and the individuals landing should be fully vaccinated…
