PTE Listening consists of total 8 tasks.
1. SUMMARIZE SPOKEN TEXT (SST):
Task Description
This task is very amazing task. In the “Summarize Spoken Text” task, you will listen to a short audio recording, typically 60-90 seconds long. After listening to the recording, you will be asked to summarize the main points in 50-70 words. There is a possibility of 2 questions in exam. You can take notes while listening to help you remember key points.
Task Requirements
1. Listen actively: Pay close attention to the audio recording, focusing on the main ideas, key points, and supporting details.
2. Identify the main idea: Quickly identify the central idea or topic of the recording.
3. Recognize key points: Recognize the key points and supporting details that elaborate on the main idea.
4. Summarize the main points: Summarize the main points in 50-70 words, using your own words.
5. Focus on the most important information: Focus on the most important information and leave out unnecessary details.
TIPS AND STRATEGIES
1. Listen carefully: Pay attention to the words, phrases, and sentences in the recording.
2. Take notes: Take notes on your notepad while listening to help you remember key points.
3. Focus on the main idea: Identify the central idea or topic of the recording and use it as a framework for your summary.
4. Manage your time: Manage your time effectively to complete the task within the allotted time. You will get only 10 minutes to complete this task.
2. Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer:
You will hear a short audio recording and choose more than one correct answer from a list of options. Be careful, there is a negative marking in this question type. If you are not sure about the answer just mark only one option. It is of 1 mark.
Fill in the Blanks:
Task Description
In the “Fill in the Blanks” task, you will listen to a short audio recording of 30-60 seconds long. The recording will be a conversation, lecture, or discussion on an academic or general topic. As you listen, you will see a transcript of the recording on the screen with several blanks. Your task is to fill in the blanks with the correct words from the recording. In the exam, you will get a notepad as well and while listening the recording write the answers of missing words on the notepad. After finishing the recording, type the answers on particular blank.
