Talking about the university’s past, the university was established in the year 1967 as Queensland Institute of Technology. After 2 years, the name was altered to University College of Central Queensland. It was in the year 1922 that the university got it’s official status and was granted the name of University of Central Queensland. Again, after 2 years, the university’s name was changed to Central Queensland University.
Talking about the current status of university, the university has 6 schools. Each of these schools are managed by specialised Deans.
The schools are as follows.
- School of Education and the Arts.
- School of Engineering and Technology
- School of Business and Law
- School of Medical and Applied Sciences
- School of Human, Health and Social Sciences
- School of Nursing and Midwifery
Currently, there are around 35,000 students enrolled in various programs that are offered in these schools. As far as areas of study areconcerned, CQ University runs programs in a wide range of areas including
apprenticeships, trades and training, accounting and law, business, performing and visual arts, education and humanities, health, engineering, information and technology, digital media, social work, psychology, community services and English.
The university has achieved excellence in the field of nursing, applied mathematics, agriculture and land management. The nursing program offered here is at ‘world standard’ and the research in applied mathematics, agriculture and land management are ranked at ‘well above world standard’.
