Canada invites 1,070 PNP candidates, creates a new record…

Canadian government recently invited 1,070 Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian immigration in it’s recent draw. This Express Entry draw was held on February 2 and invited candidates who had provincial nomination.

Canada has always been a country that values immigrants. The reason being that immigrants constitute about half of the country’s economy. Let it be as international students or as skilled workers, they contribute to the country’s economy and in return are granted the permanent residency of Canada if they are eligible for it.

The country holds draws almost every month in which it invites candidates from different countries to come and settle in Canada. This time, Canada invited candidates that had PNP. PNPrefers   to   Provincial   Nominee Program. A PNP in easy terms is that a person who is useful to a particular province of Canada and will turn out to benefit the economy of that province is invited by the province. He gets a formal agreement that states all the terms and conditions and other necessary information. When a person gets PNP, he automatically gets 600 points when he applies for permanent residency  through  the  Express Entry.

Whenever a draw is held through Express Entry, a CRS score is put down. For those who don’t know what CRS is, CRS refers to Comprehensive Ranking System. Through CRS, candidates who are willing to apply for permanent residency of Canada calculate their eligibility through various scores they  are  granted  based  upon various factors like their

  • English proficiency scores.
  • Education
  • Academic profile
  • Work experience
  • Moral conduct
  • Age

and many more factors. In this draw, the CRS score laid down  was  674.  Express  Entry draws that invite PNP candidates usually have a high CRS as the PNP candidates already get 600 additional points.

Since the pandemic, the country has only been holding Express Entry draws for PNP candidates as the immigration department is busy clearing the backlog of about 1.8 million applications. These applications include study visa applications, applications for permanent residency and citizenship and applications from various other programs launched by the Canadian government.

In a recent official statement made by Canada’s Minister of IRCC, Sean Fraser, said that the department is working efficiently to clear the backlog of applications. An addition in the staff will be made and a new infrastructure will be created to reduce the application processing time. He also stated that in near future, the focus of draws will shift from PNP to other categories as well.

Moreover, the mandate letter that was issued last year in the middle of December by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has also created an impact on IRCC. The quality of results that are being witnessed currently that too with the study visa applications are wonderful.

This is a good news for all those students who were planning to go to Canada for their higher studies but were worried by the results that came up last year.
