Extended Temporary Policy Changes To The Post-Graduation Work Permit by the Canadian government…

Lately, the Canadian government has been making a lot of changes in the policies of it’s immigration department. Due to COVID, all the sectors run by the government have faced a huge impact on themselves and the working of every sector has slowed down. The immigration department has faced employee shortages since the beginning of the pandemic. Due to this, a huge chunk of applications has piled up and has resulted in a backlog of over 1.8 million applications. IRCC is working effectively as well as efficiently to reduce this number as fast as possible. A majority of these applications are of international students who are either attending online classes in their home country or have deferred to the next available intake in their institution.

Analysing the current situation, the government of Canada has made some temporary changes in the Post Graduate Work Permit. Earlier, students were supposed to complete at least 50 percent of their study in Canada in order to be eligible for PGWP. However, as per the recent changes made, even if a student attends all of his classes in online mode in his home country, he is fully eligible to apply for Work Permit.

Moreover, in the month of November, it was announced that only those students who had attended their classes in online mode before 31st of December would be considered for Work Permit but soon, that date was shifted to 31st August 2022.

An individual who  needs to  get his Work Permit approved needs to have a Study Permit and it’s approval. As of now, it does not matter whether the classes were attended in online mode or through offline mode. Furthermore, the course that a student is intending to study needs to be of minimum 8 months  of  length.  Any  course less than this time period is not considered for Work Permit.
